Today I turn 50!  It is a number that one dreads.  For some reason, I am excited.  Lately, I have found what I really want to do.  It is not to get rich.  It is not to be famous.  It is to help.  I have found that my motives in life are not selfish.

One can search his whole life for meaning and purpose.  Finding it before one is too old to do something about it is a gift.  The one thing I have to watch is that I don’t keep my eye on the goal and forget that I also have to be.  Becoming too focused on the goal and not the steps in front of me can be a strategic error.  This that you have given me will allow me to do all the things that I love to do.  Father, for my birthday, I ask that you be my guide and you direct my feet.  I want this because I know it is of you.
